====== System Transfer ====== Once in a while one gets to move from one machine to another, or at least from one hard drive to the another (which //in fine// is almost the same thing). I'll summarize a few notable things to remind and prepare for such a move here. Hopefully it might spare some reader's time... ===== The Situation ===== To cut a long story short, it all started when I decided to //"simply"// replace my //"old"// mechanical 2.5" internal hard drive with a, now really affordable, Crucial MX100 512GB SSD. ==== of MBR, BIOS and UEFI ==== I do not intend here to delve into the details of disk partitioning formats recognition by the boot loaders and things like that, but as a main line, it is important to know that there are basically mainly two types of very low tiers in any computer: BIOS and UEFI. Most of the so called "PC" machines build before 2013 probably come with a BIOS system, Apple machines although are UEFI equipped for a long time now.
